Snow Shoeing

This week in science we went snowshoeing! First, Shane prepared us for snowshoeing and told us to dress warmly. On Wednesday we went snowshoeing and there was a set of twelve. One pair that Shane brought and another pair that we did not know who they were from. So we only had fourteen pairs and we needed sixteen. That day we had fifteen classmates and one teacher. So we did not have enough snowshoes for two people. Shane also told us that snowshoes make it easier to walk on snow. The snowshoes divide pressure among each area so the snowshoes help walking in the snow.  Also that you do not sink in the snow that much more than boots. A few things I have learned from walking in snowshoes is that they can really hurt. When you run, snow catapults on your neck and all over your back. We snowshoed on the lake and that was really fun. We explored along the shore some people made ice balls out of the slush on the ice. Another thing I learned from that day is that since water captures heat and the water is warmer than the snow the water melts the snow. So there is a lot of water and slush on the ice but it was completely safe and the ice was like a foot thick.
